More Columbia commuters are choosing sustainable travel options to get to and from campus, according to the results of Columbia Transportation’s 2018 Commute and Travel survey. The last time the survey was distributed in 2016, 2.8 percent of students and 16.2 percent of staff answered that they drive alone to campus. In 2018, those numbers decreased to 1.7 percent and 13.7 percent, respectively.

On Tuesday, October 2, Sustainable Columbia parked one of its new electric buses on College Walk to raise awareness about its initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from intercampus travel.

Facilities Operations collaborated with the Office of Sustainability to create new recycling and trash signage for public spaces on campus.

Campus shuttle system transitions to electric buses, reducing emissions by 70%

Facilities and Operations installed new electric vehicle charging stations at 560 Riverside Drive and upgraded existing stations in the Engineering Terrace garage (ETG) and International Affairs Building (IAB) garage this year.

You may have heard that Columbia is plugging into the future of transportation. This week, the University integrated six new battery-electric buses into its campus shuttle network.
