ReUse Exchange Program 

The Columbia surplus reuse program facilitates the exchange of office furniture and equipment within the University and between local communication organizations. In support of Columbia’s commitment to environmental and fiscal sustainability, the program conserves resources and minimizes waste. Departments can save money on furniture costs, and community organizations can serve the populations that need items the most. This program is not intended to provide used equipment and/or furniture for personal or home use.

Clean & Go Green

Columbia University Facilities collaborates with Environmental Health & Safety, Columbia University Environmental Stewardship and other University partners to sponsor an event at the end of every Fall semester that provides staff, faculty, and students a unique opportunity to lower the campus’s environmental footprint. 

Receptacles are made available across Morningside campus, at no cost, for the collection of large items to be recycled, re-used, or disposed of in an environmentally sound way. Clean & Go Green encourages responsible waste segregation, which helps divert trash from landfills.


Give & Go Green 

During Give and Go Green, held by the EcoReps every spring during move-out period, students donate their unwanted dorm-room items  that would otherwise be thrown in the trash, to be sent to landfills. The EcoReps then sell these items in the fall so that students are able to purchase severely discounted fridges, hangers, fans,  etc. The earnings are used to fund  programs such as bikeshare, composting, and earth week. 
The drop-off bins are located in:
Morningside: Carman, Hartley, John Jay, EC, Schapiro, Woodbridge, Nussbaum, Harmony, Broadway, Furnald, Ruggles & McBain.
Barnard: Elliot, Plimpton, 110, 600, 616, Cathedral Gardens, and Sulzberger.
